CCSO release – On May 8th, 2021 at about 10:33 am, Deputies were dispatched to the report of an assault that occurred off of Shore Edge Drive in Coos Bay, Oregon. Once Deputies arrived on scene, they observed evidence of a major assault that occurred on the property. The Deputies located the three victims and cleared for medical personnel to come on scene to render aid. During the investigation, it was discovered elderly victims were the parents of the suspect, 52-year-old Lee Huckabee, who fled on foot out the back door prior to the Deputies’ arrival. It was reported he may have been in possession of some sort of hatchet or axe. All three victims had multiple lacerations to their faces and body, as well as believed to have been assaulted by an object on the front porch. It was also discovered the brother of the suspect received physical injury trying to defend his parents, whom were on the ground with severe injuries. Both victims were transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance. While processing the crime scene, a tracking dog was dispatched and arrived to locate Huckabee in the vicinity. A passerby notified the Deputies they had seen the suspect in the Charleston area, by the visitor’s center. Huckabee was located and placed into custody. While contacting him, Deputies observed blood on each particle of clothing. Huckabee was arrested for two counts for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree and Unlawful use of a Weapon. Huckabee was transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked and lodged. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Coos Bay Police Department for the search of the suspect.
