Douglas Co. Fatal, Jan. 6

On January 5, 2016, at about 6:08 p.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers located to a two vehicle traffic crash on State Route 138E at milepost 15. The preliminary investigation reveals that at 5:58 p.m., a 1982 Dodge Dakota pickup, operated by Darlene Denise BUCKLAND, age 63, from Glide, and passenger, Lori Kaye WELTER, age 57, from Roseburg, pulled onto State Route 138E off Wild River Drive, into the path of a westbound 2008 Toyota Tundra, operated by Edward Gordon OWINGS, age 43, from Idleyld Park and was struck from the side. BUCKLAND was pronounced deceased at the scene and WELTER was transported to the Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg to be later taken to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. OWINGS was not injured in the crash, he was not issued any citations, his airbags deployed and he was wearing safety restraints. It is undetermined whether BUCKLAND and WELTER were wearing restraints, or if intoxicants were a factor.
