UO release – EUGENE, Ore. – Jorinde van Klinken has been named the Division I National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year as announced Thursday as part of the 2023 USTFCCCA academic release. While maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her UO graduate studies, van Klinken was NCAA discus champion for a third-consecutive season. Both men’s and women’s teams earn all-academic recognition while, collectively, the Ducks earned 21 individual honors. Among the criteria, teams had to carry a 3.0 or higher GPA. Individual selections were based on a 3.25 or higher cumulative GPA along with specified athletic accomplishment. In earning top honors, van Klinken becomes the first UO woman to earn National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year accolades in track and field. Van Klinken accounted for 18 points at the NCAA Championships in Austin—runner-up in the shot put—and was a semifinalist for The Bowerman. During her championship series, van Klinken had a day’s best of 65.55m/215-1 to break her own meet record.
