DUII Crash Central Coast, Jan. 28

On Friday, January 25, 2019 at about 8:52 AM, Lincoln City Police officers responded to a reported single vehicle crash on SE East Devils Lake Road, east of SE Oar Avenue. It was reported that a vehicle had gone off the roadway and crashed into a tree. When officers arrived they found a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan had gone off the north side roadway where it struck a tree causing substantial damage to the front of the vehicle and air bag deployment. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 32 year-old Sherelle L. Martin of Neotsu Oregon and she was outside the vehicle when officers arrived. Medical personnel from North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance arrived on scene and began providing medical treatment to Ms. Martin. She was subsequently transported by Pacific West Ambulance to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment of undetermined non-life threatening injuries. Also in the car at the time of the crash was the driver’s dog, which did not appear to have any visible injuries, but was scared. Officer’s were able to get the dog from the car and it was later turned over to the driver’s roommate to provide care for it. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash. The subsequent crash investigation determined that the vehicle had been traveling west bound on SE East Devils Lake Road approaching an “S” curve when the driver failed to negotiate the first curve in the road, driving off the roadway and crashing into a tree. No skid marks were observed at the crash scene. The investigating officer developed probable cause to believe that Ms. Martin was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The investigating officer applied for and received a search warrant for a blood draw from Ms. Martin and a sample of her blood was obtained. This blood sample will be submitted to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for further analysis and determination of her blood alcohol content (BAC). Ms. Martin was issued two citations, one for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and one for Reckless Driving. Due to her medical issues, Ms. Martin was given the citations and left in care of the hospital staff. Car Care Tow Pro towing company later removed the damaged vehicle from the scene.
