DUII, West Laverne Park Rd., Feb. 2

CCSO release – On January 30, 2021, at about 4:08 PM, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hit and run crash which had occurred at West Laverne County Park. The reporting party said the vehicle had exited the roadway and caused damage to a fence there and that the driver had the odor of alcohol coming from his person.
Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded. While in route the suspect vehicle was seen driving towards Coquille on Fairview Road. Based upon the report of the witness the vehicle was stopped for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver. The driver was identified as 42 year old William Blum who exhibited signs and indicators of alcohol impairment. Blum consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was ultimately placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Blum later provided a breath sample which showed him to have a BAC of .24%. The crash was investigated and upon finding the crash scene, very little to no damage was found making the roadway departure a nonreportable crash. Blum was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office alleging the crime of Recklessly Endangering Another, a female passenger.
