City of Coos Bay release – The Eastside Safe Routes to School project is well under way for the portion of the project extending from the Isthmus Slough Bridge along 6th Avenue to D Street. As Knife River continues work on 6th Avenue, it will be necessary to close the North bound lane of traffic on 6th Avenue between H Street and D Street/Coos River Hwy. North bound traffic will be detoured onto H Street to 9th Avenue, and then North back to D Street/Coos River Hwy. South bound traffic will continue as normal on 6th Avenue with delays. The detour will be in effect June 22 through July 31 on weekdays, with two-way traffic restored on weekends. The construction crew will take all precautions and necessary actions to minimize the disturbance to surrounding residents and vehicles. The Contractor will work with the residents to ensure safe entry and exiting during the road closure; however, they will experience delays. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to please exercise caution within the construction zone. Any questions can be directed to the Public Works, Operations Division at 541-269-8918.
