City of Coos Bay release – On Monday October 18, 2021 at 8:30 a.m., the City of Coos Bay Water Quality Collections crew was alerted to a minor Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) due to a break in the digested sludge force main located on the Eastside Millicoma Marsh Trail near the City of Coos Bay’s biosolids lagoon. The operators cleaned up the spill and they are currently repairing the force main. This SSO was estimated to be less than ten (10) gallons and did not enter the bay. However, since the sewage did not discharge at an approved location, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) requires the city to report this as a sanitary sewer overflow. As a result, DEQ and the Oregon Emergency Response System (OERS), were notified of the incident. If you have questions, please contact Michael Carrano, Water Quality Superintendent, at the Public Works and Community Development Department at (541) 269-1181 EXT 2500.
