News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 08-05-15 at about 7:20 am, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Highway 101 and Airport Way in Lakeside regarding a report of reckless drivers in the area. Deputies located one of the vehicles at North Bay and Highway 101. This vehicle fled from the Deputies on North Bay Road and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled from the north entrance of North Bay and 101 to the south entrance of North Bay and 101. Due to the reckless behavior of the vehicle being pursued, speed and in oncoming lanes of travel, the deputy backed off and followed the vehicle, still with his siren and overheads on to warn other drivers, but not closely. Oregon State Police Troopers were waiting with spike strips near the southern entrance of North Bay and 101. The spike strips were deployed and it appeared all four tires on the suspect vehicle were struck. With the assistance of the Oregon State Police, North Bend Police and Coos Bay Police the suspect vehicle was stopped near the entrance of Simpson Park in North Bend after traveling over the McCullough Bridge. Traffic was blocked for a very short period of time for the vehicle to make it over the bridge. The vehicle was stopped and the driver taken into custody at about 7:40 am. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Steven Michael White age 27 of Coos Bay. During the investigation, Deputies learned the white Toyota pickup had been reported stolen out of Reedsport. Mr. White was arrested for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle (2 counts), Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle Felony, Attempt to Elude on Foot, Resisting Arrest, Recklessly Endangering (6 counts) and Reckless Driving. Mr. White was transported, booked and lodged at the Coos County jail on the above mentioned charges. Steven White is being held in lieu of $110,000.00 Bail.
