On Friday, March 23, 2018 at approximately 12:23pm a Trooper from the Springfield Patrol office attempted to stop a high speed blue Dodge Charger on Highway 126E near milepost 49. The vehicle failed to yield and sped off last speed checked travelling eastbound at 92mph in heavy snow. The Trooper did not attempt to pursue the eluding vehicle. Approximately an hour later the Trooper observed the same vehicle travelling westbound near milepost 12 on Clear Lake Highway with damage to the front driver side, consistent with being involved in a vehicle crash. The vehicle was travelling at approximately 40 mph, driving recklessly, swerving in all lanes. The Trooper followed the vehicle without emergency lights, waiting for additional units. A second Trooper arrived and initiated a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the vehicle near milepost 45 on Highway 126E. The driver resisted arrest and after a short struggle he was taken into custody. The driver was identified as 51 year old David John COONRADT, from Eugene. COONRADT was arrested and charged with Felony Elude, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Resisting arrest and DUII. OSP has been unable to locate the vehicle that may have been involved in a hit and run crash near Clear Lake Highway around 12:30pm-1:00pm. COONRADT stated he had been involved in a collision with a red vehicle between the time the Trooper first attempted to stop him and when he was arrested.
