Elude in Douglas Co., Sept. 3

On August 29th, 2018, at about 9:20 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta for several traffic violations on I-5 near milepost 161.  The vehicle failed to yield to deputies for about 1 mile, finally pulling over near milepost 160.  During this time, the 911 center received a call from a subject who was later identified as Michael Baker-Guererro, a passenger in the vehicle, reporting a shooting in the area.  As deputies were attempting to contact the occupants of the Volkswagen, the vehicle fled south on I-5. Deputies, Oregon State Police Troopers, and Sutherlin Police Officers pursued the vehicle south on I-5.  During the pursuit, a subject later identified as Nathan Leitz, the driver of the Volkswagen, called the 911 center to report a stabbing in the Yoncalla area.  The vehicle exited the freeway at exit 140 and eventually led officers to the Oakland High School parking lot.  The vehicle was driving without headlights when it came around a blind corner and hit a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle head-on, deploying the suspect vehicle airbags and disabling the vehicle. The male driver, 38 year old Nathan Leitz of Roseburg, and the male passenger, 30 year old Michael Baker-Guererro of Oakland, both fled the vehicle on foot.  A third passenger, 36 year old Raven Marcotti of Myrtle Creek, remained with the vehicle and was injured.  She was transported to Mercy Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  Nathan Leitz was pursued on foot by officers and taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.  A K9 unit tracked Baker-Guererro but was not successful. Leitz was lodged in the county jail on numerous charges including Felony Attempt to Elude, Felony Hit and Run, Third Degree Assault, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, Reckless Endangering, Reckless Driving, Misuse of 911 and Initiating a false report.  Baker-Guererro is wanted on a Parole Violation and for Delivery of Cocaine out of Multnomah County.  If anyone has information as to Baker-Guererro’s whereabouts they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 541-440-4471.
