Eluder arrested for Shoplifting, March 29

News release CBPD.  A local man was arrested for shoplifting at Fred Meyer after being arrested the day before for attempting to elude police in a stolen vehicle.  On 03/23/17 at around 3:00 PM an off duty Coos Bay Police Officer observed a male attempting to break into cars in the Fred Meyer parking lot. On Duty Coos Bay Police Officers were advised and quickly responded to the area to investigate. Officers contacted the man identified as 18 year old Trevar Reed in the parking lot of the Southsider Motel. Mr. Reed denied attempting to break into vehicles at Fred Meyer, but he was found to be in possession of clothing that he had just stolen from Fred Meyer. The value of the stolen clothing exceeded $100.00. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Reed had been trespassed from Fred Meyer on 03/04/17 after he was caught shoplifting from the store that day. Mr. Reed was taken into custody and transported to the Coos County Jail on charges of second degree theft and first degree criminal trespass. On 03/22/17 at around 1:00 AM Mr. Reed was taken into custody after attempting to elude the police in a stolen vehicle. Officers were responding to the area of Anderson Ave. on a report that a man was observed attempting to break into vehicles, when an officer observed a vehicle leaving the area without its headlights on. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver sped off refusing to stop. The vehicle became disabled for an unknown reason, and Mr. Reed was taken into custody for UUV, Reckless Driving, and attempting to elude police in a vehicle. Mr. Reed was also found to be in possession of property that was later determined to have been stolen from several vehicles in the area. Police suspect that Mr. Reed may continue to attempt to steal cars, steal property from inside cars, and steal property in general. If anyone sees Mr. Reed wandering around their neighborhood, or around parked cars, the Coos Bay Police Department is asking that you contact your local law enforcement agency immediately and report this type of activity.
