Oregon Employment Dept. release – Leisure and Hospitality Shows Largest Job Gain Over the Year Coos County total payroll employment rose by 140 jobs in February. An increase of 240 jobs in local government education accounted for most of the month’s gain. Construction also added jobs, up by 30. Industries with estimated job losses over the month were retail trade (-50); transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40); and professional and business services (-20). Coos County total payroll employment increased by 240 jobs since February 2021. Leisure and
hospitality had both the largest net gain (+430) and percent increase (+18.8%) among the county’s private-sector industries over the year. Job gains were also estimated in other services (+70); financial activities (+40); and food manufacturing (+20). Employment fell over the year in construction (-50); mining and logging (-40); and retail trade (-30). Government employment was little changed over the year. Gains in local government education (+160) and Indian tribal (+50) were offset by losses in local government excluding education and tribal (-110) and state government (-80). Curry County payroll employment climbed by 90 jobs in February. Leisure and hospitality (+30) and construction (+20) both added jobs. Government had a net increase of 30 jobs in February. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment fell by 30 jobs. Gains were estimated in retail trade (+30) and information (+20). Health care employment fell by 50 jobs while manufacturing lost 30 jobs over the year. Government employment fell by 20 jobs, with losses in local government education (-20) and local government excluding education (-10) slightly offset by a gain of 10 federal government jobs.
