Oregon Employment Dept. report – South Coast Payroll Employment Up by 830 Jobs Over the Year Coos County total payroll increased by 210 jobs in October. Most of the gain was due to a seasonally typical rise of 270 jobs in local government education. Most over-the-month changes in private-sector industries were small, with the exception being a loss of 90 jobs in leisure and hospitality. Coos County payroll employment rose by 770 jobs over the past year. Gains were estimated in professional and business services (+290), leisure and hospitality (+170), wholesale trade (+70), private education and health services (+60), and financial activities (+40). industries with estimated job losses over the year included manufacturing (-60) and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-30). Government employment climbed by 160 jobs with gains of 100 in Indian tribal and 40 in local government excluding education and tribal. Curry County payroll employment lost 250 jobs in October. Leisure and hospitality employment slipped by 120 jobs. Retail trade lost 20 jobs over the month. Government employment fell by 90 jobs mostly due to a decline of 90 jobs in local government excluding educational services. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment added 60 jobs. Industries with estimated job gains included leisure and hospitality (+70), health care (+40), other services (+20), and government (+20). On the other hand, a few industries showed slight job losses since October 2022 including construction (-40), manufacturing (-30), and retail trade (-20).
