Employment on the South Coast: May 2023, June 23

Oregon Employment Dept. release – South Coast Payroll Employment Up by 310 Jobs Over the Year Coos County total payroll employment rose by 250 jobs in May. Private-sector industries adding jobs were leisure and hospitality (+50); private education and health services (+30); and trade, transportation, and utilities (+20). Government employment added 150 jobs, nearly all of those in the local government education component. Coos County payroll employment rose by 280 jobs over the past year. Gains were estimated in leisure and hospitality (+200), other services (+70), construction (+20), and wholesale trade (+20). Industries with estimated job losses over the year included retail trade (-80), professional and business services (-70), and financial activities (-30). Government employment climbed by 120 jobs with gains in Indian tribal (+70), local government excluding education and tribal (+40), and state government (+30). Curry County payroll employment gained 150 jobs in May. Leisure and hospitality (+90), and private education and health services (+20) showed employment gains over the month. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment added 30 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities employment lost an estimated 60 jobs. Employment gains were seen in leisure and hospitality (+50), local government excluding educational services (+30), and state government (+20).
