Oregon Employment Dept. release – Seasonally Typical Losses in Leisure and Hospitality – Coos County total payroll employment was little changed in November, down by just 20 jobs. Industries with estimated job losses over the month were leisure and hospitality (-60), construction (-30), food manufacturing (-20), and professional and business services (-20). Offsetting those losses were gains in retail trade (+30), and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (+20). Government employment rose by 60 jobs in November, with gains in local government education (+40), local government excluding education and tribal (+20), and Indian tribal local government (+10). A slight loss of 10 jobs was estimated in state government. Coos County payroll employment rose by 690 jobs over the past year. Gains were estimated in professional and business services (+260), leisure and hospitality (+110), private education and health services (+90), wholesale trade (+70), and financial activities (+40). The only industry with estimated job losses over the year was manufacturing (-70). Government employment climbed by 140 jobs since November 2022 mostly due to gains of 90 jobs in Indian tribal and 50 jobs in local government excluding education and tribal. Curry County payroll employment decreased by 120 jobs in November. Leisure and hospitality lost 110 jobs while employment was essentially unchanged in the county’s other published industries. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment added 50 jobs. Industries with estimated job gains included leisure and hospitality (+40), health care (+30), and other services (+20). On the other hand, a few industries showed slight job losses since November 2022 including construction (-50), manufacturing (-20), and retail trade (-20).
