This local news brief is brought to you by Southwest Oregon Regional Airport www.flyoth.com with air service from North Bend to San Francisco.

Good Friday morning to you.  Ready for a Labor Day Weekend.  Seems too soon to call it the “official” end to Summer.  Those who reside on the South Coast know that September & October are usually the best weather months of the year.  So, Summer continues for us!  Some clouds in the forecast for the weekend, but sunshine as well.  Highs in the 70s and overnight lows in the 50s.  Winds out of the West at 10-15 mph today.  Don’t forget Monday is the Holiday.  Banks, post office, governmental offices all closed.  I’ll be here with the news, however.  Hey it still happens!  School gets underway next Tuesday.  Traffic patterns in Eastside have been adjusted.  Go on to the City of Coos Bay website for a map and instructions for parents at Millicoma next week.  The BLM has added campground restrictions for this weekend.  City of Coos Bay has some problems with its Sewer Plants.  CBPD has a crosswalk operation this morning.  Just a reminder of Crosswalk Laws in Oregon.  More work on 6th St. at Central today in downtown Coos Bay.  Big quake shakes the outer fault line early Thursday morning. State of Oregon says September a good month to be prepared.   Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation awards grants. Historic Theatre grants are now available statewide.  More on the Organic Certification Cost Share Program.  ODFW has info for Upland Bird Hunters. Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee meets today.    Central Coast law enforcement gears up for the long holiday with extra DUII patrols.  Ocean Coho Anglers have a second season beginning tomorrow. South Coast Striders Hike on Sunday.  Former Police Officer pleads guilty to stealing meth.  Fatal on I-84 and in Josephine Co.  Police logs are full of warrant arrests.  Most transients cited, don’t appear, cited again, don’t appear again.  Just a carousel and our police officers have more important matters.  It is a problem everywhere.  I see three types of transients, those who are truly and unfortunately homeless and looking to get back on their feet, those who have mental challenges families can’t afford financially or for other reasons, and then there are the true bums.  They are the ones occupying our law enforcement.  They’re opening mailboxes, breaking into homes, and stealing anything before getting out of town.  Unless they find success and hang around as long as they can.  Just a clarification.  There were some other entries on the police logs, but nothing drastic.  In sports, wow, lots of action.  High school and college.  Beavers play football tonight on the tube.  Here’s an easy bet for you, O-S-U will win tonight, guaranteed!  The Ducks have Auburn Saturday on ABC TV.  Seahawks won last night.  They end the NFL preseason at 3-1.  Have a great Labor Day Weekend and thank you for reading.            Matt
