This local news brief is brought to you by Southwest Oregon Regional Airport www.flyoth.com with air service from North Bend to San Francisco.

Good Friday morning.  Another “Weekend in the West” and the first one for the Month of October.  Weather forecasters say we should see some sun later today and this weekend, but highs in the low 60s and overnight lows in the 40s.  Winds are light and variable.  I am beginning to get the feeling Summer may be over!  If you haven’t read “Coos County Cops” yet, it will be under the “Publications” tab all month, great story on the USCG and patrols/exercises off the Oregon Coast this Summer.  In our news today, Flu Shots.  Good idea.  Available in Lakeside today, or at the CHW offices on La Clair St. in Coos Bay.  Got mine last week.  The Oregon Health Authority lifted Recreational Advisories for two lakes, one on the Oregon Coast.  Champoeg Park has a Harvest Day event.  Quite the historical site in Oregon.  South Coast Striders are headed to the Tahkenitch Dunes this weekend.  USCG rescues three sailors trying to sail from Olympia, WA to Newport on a 41-footer.  Well, the weather as you know was not good off the Coast for such a trip.  They are all safe.  See they thought it was still Summer too.  Okay, next is a Portland area couple arrested on the Central Coast.  Wow, they were living in a rental, driving a Porsche, and having a good time until the police surrounded the residence.  They didn’t pay anything, they’re crooks!  Burglary, theft, and ID Fraud charges across the board.  On our local police beat, CCSO reports show an assault arrest in Charleston and a warrant arrest of a bicyclist.  Warrant arrest on the NBPD logs shows the same individual.  In sports, lots of excitement.  Prep schedules for both NBHS & MHS into the weekend.  Bulldogs football team has a Miss Flame Game tonight against the defending state champions.  Pirates play on Saturday night at home.  Prep scores from last night, good volleyball outing on the road for both the Pirates and Bulldogs.  North Bend girls fall on the road in Soccer.   SWOCC’s volleyball team has two home matches this weekend.  Pac-12 football has both the Ducks and Beavers on the “Tube.”  If you made a bet earlier this year that the Beavers would play in the Rose Bowl this year, you should collect your winnings this weekend.  Pac-12 volleyball has Oregon and Oregon State home to the Bay Area teams.  OSU women will run XC at Salem Saturday.  The Seattle Seahawks pull out a one-point win over the visiting Rams in a Thursday night NFL game.  Hope your weekend goes well and thank you for reading.   Feel free to share with others.    Matt
