This local news brief is brought to you by Southwest Oregon Regional Airport www.flyoth.com with air service from North Bend to San Francisco.

Good Friday morning.  Another “Weekend in the West” is here, and not much left of the month of February as far as weekends.  Great weather the last couple of days.  Well, mostly in the afternoon when the temperature got into the mid to upper 50s.  More of the same today.  Some clouds in the afternoon.  Winds light and variable.  Don’t be fooled by the early blossoms.  They look nice, but the wild plum always blooms early.  I was thrown a bit by some of the Rhodies I see blooming, but notice they are a different variety than our May to June blooms on the Oregon Coast.  There is more cold weather ahead.  Of course, Spring Sports starts soon and there’s nothing like sitting outside in the cold, wet weather to cheer your team on.  You can go indoors tonight and cheer on the North Bend basketball teams, or Saturday over at SWOCC as they have two home games.  Also, a plug for the Girl Scouts again, they’ll be out this weekend shivering in the cold to sell their cookies.  I found some at Pony Village, in the main front area, and at Safeway in Coos Bay.  I’m sure there are other locations.  In our news, FERC has delayed a decision on Jordan Cove.  It was expected today, but a state agency announced ts opposition this week and that apparently impacted the FERC commissioners.  Southwest Oregon Regional Airport has federal money again for service between the Bay Area and Portland.  That’s great news!  Sanitary sewer work in Eastside.  An update on that Hwy. 22 fuel spill.  Apparently it has happened before on that same stretch of road.  Recreational Trails Advisory Council on Central Coast today. Updates on the Oregon Coast Trail Plan on the agenda.  Saturday, National Trio Day at SWOCC.  DEA Meth Initiative announced.  Finally!  Southern Oregon male pleads guilty to threatening a mass shooting.  I guess YouTube deleted something of his and he got mad.  Now he’s got prison time.   Corrections deputies graduating from the Academy this weekend in Aumsville.  Isn’t that a great name for a community?  Kind of expect “Leave it to Beaver” or a “Mayberry” look, but it doesn’t really have city streets or a downtown.  But I like the name!  Disorderly conduct and warrant arrests on the police logs. In sports, prep schedules for the weekend.  Some league playoffs, district championships and even state championships this weekend for the Bulldogs and Pirates.  Pac-12 men’s basketball not good in the Desert last night for the Willamette Valley teams. Maybe it was just too warm.  Women play in the Bay Area tonight.  California’s Bay Area.  Baseball and softball action for the Ducks and Beavers, but not in this state.  No, they’re in the warmer climates this weekend. Hope you have a great weekend and thank you for reading.  Matt
