SORA newsletter – Compared to Summer 2020, the Airport has seen a drastic increase in both general aviation traffic and commercial passenger traffic. On October 5th, the Airport will be in discussions about establishing air service to destinations north of the airfield. This air service will allow Coos County and the surrounding area to have year-round, direct commercial flight access to Portland. Currently, the airport has service to San Francisco and Denver. Expanding upon those commercial air routes will help provide a vital link with our Northwest community. Last year, Southwest Oregon Regional Airport received the Small Community Air Service Development Grant. This grant provides the Airport with $750,000 to help establish air routes north of Coos Bay. Expanding the Airport’s reach into a greater regional presence will help the future development of additional commercial air service routes. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
