Motorists traveling north on Interstate 5 should expect long delays Sunday afternoon and evening, April 26, through a work zone (milepost 162-169) south of Cottage Grove. Similar delays are expected to occur on Sunday, May 3. Heavy traffic congestion and long delays have occurred the previous two Sundays as weekend travelers return home to northern Oregon and Washington. Some delays have exceeded 1-2 hours. Most congestion has occurred between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. No delays are expected in the southbound direction of I-5. Northbound motorists are advised to take alternate routes or adjust their travel times to avoid peak hours. Motorists traveling along the southern Oregon coast are advised to continue north on U.S. 101 and take Oregon 126 (Florence to Eugene Highway) to I-5. Road cameras and traffic information are available at ODOT’s travel website, www.tripcheck.com.
