Slide activity on Oregon 42 necessitates 24-hour flagging at milepost 34, roughly 13 miles east of Myrtle Point. Since mid-February, ODOT maintenance crews have monitored a section of highway steadily slumping toward the Coquille River. Mitigation has required grinding and covering the section with rock until slide activity slows down. “We expect it will take at least a couple weeks of drier weather for the slide to slow down enough for us to repave,” said ODOT District Manager Darrin Neavoll. “Until then, flaggers and other traffic control will be used to reduce speeds and assist travelers through the area. We expect minimal delays.” For more information, contact ODOT PIO Jared Castle; cell: 541-817-3456. For the latest conditions on state highways, please visit www.tripcheck.com or call 511.
