CBPL release – Explore salmon habitat at Deton Creek with biologists from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Saturday, July 9 at 10:00am. Located 20 minutes outside of Coos Bay off the Coos River, Deton Creek is an example of how habitat can be restored to encourage salmon passage. The hike will take place on Weyerhauser property that has been restored. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather for this 1.5 mile hike. Pre-registration required by June 28 on the Coos Bay Public Library’s website. Directions on how to get to trailhead emailed the week before the program. Participants must provide own transportation and meet at trailhead; must provide own transportation. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult parent or caregiver. The program is open to all ages. The event is part of the Coos Bay Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program. During the summer, the Library offers both a reading challenge and programming for all ages which encourage people to read, learn, connect and explore the outdoors. Beginning June 20 and continuing through August 6, participants can enroll in the challenge earn badges, rewards, and a chance to win a grand prize. This year, people can participate either online or using a paper tracking form. Challenge registration is available on the Library’s website or at the Coos Bay Public Library.
