CBPD release – The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) responded to a vehicle crash where a pedestrian was killed, and a driver was seriously injured. On August 16, 2023, at about 1:05 p.m., the North Coos 911 Center (NC911) received multiple 911 reports of an accident involving a vehicle and pedestrian near the intersection of 4th St. and Anderson Ave. NC911 dispatched CBPD officers, the Coos Bay Fire Department (CBFD), and Bay Cities Ambulance (BCA) to the location. On arrival, officers found the pedestrian, 54-year-old Jenifer Centers-Buell of Coos Bay, deceased. Ms. Centers-Buell had been hit by a black pickup that left the roadway, crashing into her and a dog as she sat against a building near 4th St. and Anderson Ave. Ms. Centers-Buell’s next of kin have been notified. CBPD requested the Crash Team respond and aid with the crash investigation. The Crash Team includes members from local law enforcement agencies and the Coos County District Attorney’s Office. The driver of the pickup was transported with serious injuries by Bay Cities Ambulance. The name of the driver will not be released at this time, and this investigation is still ongoing. The CBPD was aided on scene by the Oregon State Police (OSP), Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Coos County District Attorney’s Office, North Bend Police Department – Oregon (NBPD), Coos Health & Wellness (CH&W), Public Safety Chaplains, The Devereux Center, Coquille Indian Tribal Police, Coos Bay Fire Department (CBFD), Bay Cities Ambulance (BCA), and Mast Brothers Towing.
