On December 1, 2015 at about 12:30PM, OSP troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on Highway 126 near milepost 126 (Walterville ). Upon arrival on scene emergency personnel discovered a commercial motor vehicle had rolled over and was on it’s side. The truck, a 2001 Kenworth registered to Apache Transport, had been transporting 68 head of cattle from Madras to Junction City. The driver, Daniel HANSFORD, age 37, of Junction City received minor injuries. Numerous cattle were killed and injured in the crash. The owner of the stock responded to assess the damage and recovered several that were still trapped inside the trailer and several that had escaped into the nearby area. Eugene Water & Electric Board personnel responded and removed the downed powerlines which allowed Mckenzie Fire and Rescue to assist with the extraction of the trapped cattle. Preliminary information reveals the Kenworth had been traveling westbound on Highway 126 when it failed to negotiate a corner. Roadway evidence indicated speed was a contributing factor. HANSFORD was cited for Failure to Drive Within His Lane.
