On December 10, 2016 at about 5:30PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a pedestrian laying alongside of Highway 39 near Roberta Drive (just south of Klamath Falls). Emergency crews arrived and found an unconscious male who was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Dodge Dart was traveling northbound on Highway 39 (Malin Highway) when it struck a pedestrian in the lane of travel. The pedestrian, James A WELLS, age 77, of Klamath Falls, was taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. Information obtained was WELLS was attempting to cross the road to get his mail when he was struck. The driver of the Dodge, Eliseo CARRILLO BARAJAS, of Klamath Falls, was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. Highway 39 was closed for a short period of time while the investigation was conducted.
