News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 5-7-16 at 1107 hours the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Fairview Fire and Coquille Fire were alerted to a logging accident east of Coquille, Oregon. First responders responded to an area off Lee Valley road near Lost Creek. At the scene EMS and Fire personnel located Leland A. Ayer 61 of Coos Bay, Oregon. Mr. Ayer had been struck by an uprooted alder tree while conducting commercial falling operations. Mr. Ayer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
