On Friday, June 5, 2020 at approximately 5:58 P.M., the Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Highway 224 just east of SE Surface RD, within the city limits of Estacada. Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2004 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on Highway 224 just west of Fall Creek Rd at a high rate of speed. While negotiating a curve, the operator lost control of the car and entered into the eastbound lanes of travel. The operator overcorrected, slid across all lanes of travel, and collided into a raised embankment. The vehicle rolled several times. The driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries. It is believed speed, lack of safety restraints, and intoxicants were contributing factors.
