Fatal Transpacific Hwy., Jan. 19

CCSO news release.  On January 17, 2018 at approximately 9:23 AM the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a crash that occurred at approximately milepost 1.5 on Transpacific Highway, North Bend near the Roseburg Forest Products terminal. The crash involved a small sedan, traveling eastbound on Transpacific Hwy, which then left the roadway and impacted a parked Coos Bay Rail Link railcar loaded with lumber. The sedan was operated by Jatcko, Nathan J. 31 years of age of St. Louis, Missouri. The railcar was stationary and the train was not in operation. Jatcko did not survive the crash. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause and manner of death. Mr. Jatcko had been reported as a missing/endangered person on January 12, 2018 by the St. Louis Police Department in Missouri. The investigation was conducted by the Coos County Sheriff‘s Office with assistance of Oregon State Police, and the Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office. North Bay Fire Department was also involved with managing the scene. The St. Louis Police Department was instrumental in the investigation as well and made next of kin notifications.
