Nine-tunnels covering 82-miles of the Coos Bay Rail railroad line between Coquille and Eugene will be completely rehabilitated thanks to an $11 million grant from the Nationally Significant Freight and Highway Projects program. Fourth District Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield) is a ranking member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and carried the torch for the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay in acquiring the federal funds. The tunnels are about 100 years old and are reportedly in dire need of repairs.
