They raised quite a stir when they first started appearing last Fall in Gardiner. Trailers and modular homes were showing up on the old Gardiner Sawmill site between the Umpqua River and Hwy. 101. Area residents questioned the building inventory with some even reportedly showing up at one of the security manned gates carrying a firearm to question the guards. Turns out the trailers belong to FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and they were re-positioned from Southern Oregon to Western Douglas Co. However, due to the recent breakout of wildfires, some of the Gardiner trailers are on the move down Hwy. 42 towards the Jacks Fire east of Roseburg. They will be repositioned nearby to assist with evacuation efforts if necessary.
