Fire Ban in Effect, Sept. 15

Coos Bay Fire release – In response to the wildfire crisis across the northwest and the lack of resources available to assist in fighting these fires, The Cities of Coos Bay and North Bend cooperatively imposed a temporary ban last week on the use of power tools (ie. lawn mowers, chainsaws, etc.) that potentially can create a spark that would ignite grass or other dry vegetation. Monday morning the Fire Chiefs from Coos Bay and North Bend consulted with Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA). We discussed the improvement of fire conditions within western Oregon, the increased humidity levels in the Coos Bay/North Bend area and the forecast for precipitation later today. Based on these factors, The Cities of Coos Bay and North Bend have jointly decided to lift the restrictions, effective immediately, on the use of power equipment within city limits. Those outside of the incorporated city limits should contact CFPA at 541-267-3161 for information on the use of power equipment in those areas. A ban on open burning (ie. campfires, burn barrels, etc.) is still in effect.
