Fire Extinguisher Training, July 8

According to U.S. Fire Administrations, the majority of residential fires in the U.S. are kitchen fires.  The U.S. Fire Administration recommends that fire extinguishers only be used by adults that have been trained on how to safely use them. Coos Bay Fire Rescue suggests that each home follow the recommendations of the U.S. Fire Administration.  In an effort to create a safer community, Coos Bay Fire Rescue will be hosting a Fire Extinguisher class. This will be a two hour class on the safety, use, inspection, and placement of fire extinguishers. This class will include discussion as well as hands on training.  This class is offered for any adult citizens of the Bay Area. The training will be held on July 15th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Coos Bay Fire Station, 450 Elrod Ave. You must call to reserve a seat for this class and seats are limited.  Coos Bay Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone that fire extinguisher use is only one component to a fire safe home. Along with a fire extinguisher, each home should have a working smoke alarm on each floor, and a fire escape plan.  Smoke alarms should be tested monthly, and it is recommended that only smoke alarms with 10 year lithium batteries be used. A home fire escape plan should be reviewed and discussed with the family on a regular basis and you should conduct home fire drills.  Coos Bay Fire Rescue is committed to keeping the community safe. Please check our website and watch for announcements for future training opportunities on fire safety, CPR, and disaster preparedness. If you would like to reserve a seat, or if you have questions please call the Coos Bay Fire Department at 541-269-1191.
