CFPA release – Firefighters from CFPA responded to a fire just before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, east of Reedsport on the north side of the Umpqua River. Lakeside RFD responded for mutual aide with their boat to help transport firefighters across the river. The Deer Head Point fire burned on private and U.S. Forest Service land and was approximately 4 acres in size. Firefighters worked to secure the fire for the night and will return Wednesday morning to mop-up and extinguish the fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Fuel conditions are drying out quickly with the current sunny and windy weather. CFPA asks people to exercise caution when enjoying the outdoors. Debris burning is still allowed within CFPA’s district but residents need to avoid burning in high winds.
