Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) responded to a fire 17 mile northeast of Brookings at 2:00 am July 5th. The fire was caused by fireworks and burned 1 acre in tan oak . The fire occurred in an area of limited access but firefighters were able to get to the fire on foot. Firefighting resources from CFPA and the US Forest Service worked all day to catch the fire before it could do serious damage. This fire is a solid reminder that fireworks do not belong in the forest.
