During the Bay Area Fun Festival at Coos Bay, former Marshfield Pole Vault Coach Stan Solomon used to put on a what he called a “Street Jump.” Basically, he brought the pole vault equipment, along with a special runway to Fourth St. between Commercial and Central. Then he invited vaulters. It was a fun showcase. Last Wednesday, Siuslaw track Coach Chris Johnson held a similar event on Bay Street at Florence. Two current Pirates, competing under the Prefontaine Track Club banner, won the boy’s division during the second annual event. Juniors Jonathon Parks & Danner Wilson each cleared 14-6 to place first and second.
