Former Oregon quarterback Bob Berry passed away Wednesday at the age of 81. Berry was drafted out of Oregon by both the NFL & AFL in the 1964 Draft; however, he remained in Eugene to finish his senior season before signing with the Minnesota Vikings. As a junior at Oregon, he led the Ducks to a 21-14 win over SMU in the Sun Bowl. He eventually went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons earning All Pro honors in 1969. He later was traded back to Minnesota where he ended his career playing back up to legendary quarterback Fran Tarkenton.
Another Former Duck Passes
He came out of Vale, OR, went on to an outstanding career at Oregon that led to the NFL Hall of Fame. Dave Wilcox, 80, passed away Wednesday. Wilcox was a member of the Ducks’ 1963 Sun Bowl championship team and played in the Hula Bowl All-Star game following his senior season. In his eleven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, he was named to the Pro Bowl seven-times as a linebacker. After retirement, he settled in Junction City and along with his wife operated a travel agency. Their two sons helped lead JC to high school state championships and followed in their father’s footsteps to the University of Oregon. His youngest, Justin, is the head coach at California.
