The 2023 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl from El Paso, TX, Dec. 29th will have a Bay Area flavor as two former Marshfield Pirates will suit up for the game televised nationally on CBS (11a). Cory Stover (#82) has substituted at defensive end for Oregon State throughout the season, while Dom Montiel (#15), a preferred work-on in his second year with the Beavers, has vaulted to the No. 2 quarterback spot behind last year’s starter Ben Gulbanson a redshirt sophomore following the Transfer Portal exodus of season starter DJ Uiagalelei and his back-up Aidan Chiles. Gulbranson played in one game this year and completed one pass. Montiel has not played in any OSU games, but has suited up and charted on the sidelines for all games. He has also run the scout teams in practice for the Beavers, but now he’s taking 2nd team reps.
