New Hires Coos County Sheriff’s Office
CCSO release – Date / Time: March 15, 2023 at 0900; Case Number(s): N/a; Classification: New Hires; Location: Coos County Sheriff’s Office; Information to be released: Over the past few months, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office has been working hard to hire men and women from our community to fill vacant positions within the office. Today we were happy to bring aboard Deputy Brison Vitek to the Corrections Division. Deputy Vitek began his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy and we can’t thank him enough for his dedication to this community and his desire to continue that service as a full time Deputy Sheriff. Please join us in welcoming Deputy Vitek. Assault, Barview
CCSO release – Date / Time: March 15, 2023 at 4:45 p.m.; Case Number(s): S23-05794; Classification: Assault II / Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Location: Matthew Road, Barview, Oregon 97420; Suspect(s): Carolina Ahumada (30); Information to be released: On March 15th, 2023 at 4:45 p.m. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a disturbance in progress located on Matthew Road, in Barview.  Deputy H. Francis responded along with Charleston Fire and Bay Cities Ambulance personnel who were dispatched to provide aid to the victim’s injuries. Members from the Oregon State Police also responded to hold the scene until deputies could arrive. Upon Deputy Francis arrival on scene the male victim had already been transported to Bay Area Hospital for injuries sustained during the incident. The suspect, Carolina Ahumada (30) years of age of Coos Bay, was still on scene. During an investigation it was leaned the victim was stuck with a plate requiring him to go to the hospital for treatment. After speaking with all involved parties including children present, Caroline Ahumada (30) was arrested on the charge of assault II and Unlawful use of a weapon. Caroline was transported to the Coos County Jail where she was booked.

Overdose Windjammer Ln.
CCSO release – Date / Time: March 14th, 2023 at 11:55 p.m. Case Number(s): S23-05744; Classification: Life Saving; Location: Windjammer Lane, Coos Bay, OR 97420; Involved: N/a; Information to be released: On March 14th, 2023 at 11:55 p.m. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 report of a subject who had overdosed on opioids/Fentanyl at an address on Windjammer Lane, near Barview. The (40) year old female victim was reported as unconscious and barely breathing. Deputy Z. Smith from the Sheriff’s Office was first to arrive on scene and it appeared the female victim had stopped breathing at this point and was visibly turning blue.  After quickly accessing the situation, Deputy Z. Smith administered one dose of Narcan, which our patrol Deputies carry while on duty. After not seeing distinct improvement in the victim’s condition, Deputy Z. Smith administered a second dose of Narcan and confirmed via radio for Emergency Medical Services to expedite their response.  A short time later Emergency Medical Service arrived on scene. Deputy Z. Smith remained on scene with EMS until the victim recovered.  The victim refused further medical treatment. The Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize Deputy Z. Smith and his fast actions which quite likely saved the female victim’s life.

Fraud Impersonation
CCSO release – Date / Time: March 15, 2023; Case Number(s): N/a; Classification: Fraud / Impersonation ; Location: Coos County; Suspect(s): Unk; Information to be released: On March 15th 2023 the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center began receiving phone calls from concerned citizens in reference to scam/fraud calls. An unknown suspect(s) is calling Coos County Residents from a text now app number (541-243-5758) and stating that they are with Coos County Sheriff’s Office and are advising people they have outstanding warrants for their arrest or they have missed court. The caller has told people they are “SGT Coleman,” with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. As part of this scam the caller attempts to solicit money from the induvial to make their warrants or missed court appearance, “Go away.” At no time will members of the Coos County Sheriff’s Office ever take or request money from citizens to clear warrants or deal with missed court appearances. Please be aware of this and other scams. Please never provide your personal information over the phone to include your social security number, bank account / routing numbers or other financial/personal information.
