Frank Gaffney is Featured Maritime Artist at Coos Art Museum, July 10

Frank Gaffney of Mountlake Terrance, Washington is the featured maritime artist for Coos Art Museum’s 22nd Annual Maritime Art Exhibition. Gaffney’s work will be on display in the Perkins Gallery during the maritime exhibition which runs from July 11 through September 26, 2015. Gaffney is a Signature Member and past president of The Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters and a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. He is also a member of the Oil Painters of America and Coast Guard Art Program. A frequent participant in Coos Art Museum’s Annual Maritime Art Exhibition, Gaffney received an Award of Merit in 2008 and 2010 and the Directors Award in 2009. Coos Art Museum Annual Maritime Art Exhibition is the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) regional competition for the entire western United States. It is the oldest continuous Maritime art competition on the West Coast. The opening of Gaffney’s exhibition coincides with Coos Art Museum’s annual maritime fundraising dinner beginning at 5pm, July 11. This exciting event features the popular silent art auction, beer and wine sales, and enjoyable camaraderie. Delicious food offerings will be catered by The Coach House Restaurant of Coos Bay. Auction artworks include pieces by participating 22nd Annual Maritime Art Exhibition artists and local artists. A special facet of the auction event is the sale of recently completed plein air maritime paintings. Other items include goods and services provided by area businesses. Tickets for the dinner and auction are $45 for Museum members and $50 for non-members. Coos Art Museum has been a cultural focal point of Oregon’s scenic Southern Coast since 1966. It occupies an historic 1936 Art Deco US Federal Building in downtown Coos Bay. The Museum offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes, and lectures. Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
