OPRD release – Florence, Ore. – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is partnering with America’s State Parks for free guided First Day Hikes in state parks on New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1. Information about the Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park hike: The approximately 1.8-mile, round trip hike around Cleawox Lake and the historic area includes picturesque views of the lake and Oregon Dunes, as well as glimpses of wildlife and plants. This is a leisurely hike through a coastal forest. The hike starts at 9 a.m. and begins at the Historic Lodge and Bathhouse, located on the west side of Highway 101. The trail surfaces include pavement, gravel, sand, dirt, and possibly mud. Surfaces can also be uneven at times with exposed roots. The route has very slight, gradual elevation changes and is not ADA accessible. No dogs, please. Participants should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water and snacks, as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.
