Friday Foreign Film at CBPL, Jan. 8

The “Friday Foreign Film” series at Coos Bay Public Library continues at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8th. Festival favorite “Traitors” (Morocco, 2013) is this month’s feature. Malika is the leader of the all-female punk rock band Traitors, with a strong vision of the world, her hometown of Tangier, and her place in it. Desperate for money to record a demo-tape for the band and live her dreams, and to save her family from eviction, Malika agrees to smuggle drugs over the mountains. However, her principles as a woman are challenged when she meets her partner in crime Amal, a woman forced into this lifestyle by her abusive male captors. Torn between duty and intent, Malika’s future decisions put her non-conformist nature to the test – having to survive on pure instinct and guts, particularly during the hazardous return journey home. The “Friday Foreign Film” series, sponsored by the Friends of Coos Bay Public Library, is normally held on the second Friday of the month and is free to the public. Many of these films are not rated and parental discretion is advised. For more information call 269-1101.
