North Bend swept the boys & girls Far West League district cross country championships Thursday at Tugman State Park north of Lakeside. The Bulldog boys won with 41-points, led by overall winner senior Michael Brown (16:13.00), and runner-up classmate George LaGesse (16:56.00). Marshfield’s team also qualified for state by finishing second with 50-points. Senior Ian Emlet (17:08.00) led the Pirates with a third place overall finish. Siuslaw was third with 53, followed by So. Umpqua (93), Brookings-Harbor (108), and Douglas (177). There were only four complete girl’s teams in the FWL this year. North Bend won with 34-points, followed by Siuslaw (42), So. Umpqua (53) and Brookings-Harbor (102). The Bulldogs and Vikings qualify for the state meet, Saturday, Nov. 5th at Lane Community College in Eugene. Individually, Siuslaw senior and defending state champion Celie Mans took first (18:45.67), while Marshfield’s sophomore Jazmin Chavez was second (19:17.76). North Bend senior Samantha Shook took third (20:08.77). Marshfield freshman Kaylee Delzotti also qualified for state with her fourth place finish (20:26.34). NBHS girls: 6 Megan Rutherford 20:44.16; 9 Hailey Finnigan 21:15.12; 11 Janelle LeBlanc 21:23.69; 14 Elizabeth Salathe 22:00.37; 16 Alyssa Monohon 22:11.67; 20 Kate Riley 22:53.93. MHS girls: 22 Madelyn Suppes 23:22.69. In the Coed JV race, only two complete teams were recorded. North Bend’s boys (15) beat Brookings-Harbor (49), and the Bulldog girls (16) bettered Marshfield (42).
