CBFD news release. On January 2, 2018 at 6:41 p.m., the Coos Bay Fire Department received reports of a structure fire located at 475 Ocean Blvd in Coos Bay. Initial reports to the 911 Center were there were flames coming out of the detached garage. The first arriving crews were on scene in four minutes, and they found a fully involved garage with two separate exposures. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the majority of the fire and prevent significant damage to the either exposure. After the fire was extinguished, a fire investigation was conducted. It is believed that the cause of the fire was a heating lamp that fell to the ground and ignited the wooden floor. Once the fire began, it quickly spread throughout the structure due to exposed wood and other combustibles. Coos Bay Fire Department was assisted on scene by North Bend Fire Department, Coos Bay Police Department, and Pacific Power. Damage to the residence was limited to some exterior siding due to a quick initial knock down of the fire, so no residents were displaced.
