Report from City Administrator David Milliron – July 20, 11:53 a.m. – Gas Leak in North Bend – Please avoid the area of Madrona Street and Virginia Avenue in North Bend as a construction crew has hit a natural gas line. North Bend Police and Fire are on scene. (Tuesday, July 20, 2021 @ 10:42 am). 11:52 am UPDATE: The natural gas provider is onsite and is working to shut off the gas. This process could take as long as an hour. Meanwhile, police and fire have evacuated the immediate area and opened the North Bend Community Center Building for staging. Residents in the area may smell a foul odor in the immediate area. Natural gas has no odor. Gas companies add a harmless chemical called mercaptan to give it its distinctive “rotten egg” smell.
