A “Water Consumption Advisory” for Coos Bay – North Bend Water Board customers in the Glasgow area at the north end of the McCullough Bridge has been lifted.  Water Board workers recently completed flushing and testing of the water system after several complaints of a “fuel-like odor” were reported in the water supply during the weekend of April 18-20.  Testing of samples at a lab in Medford revealed low levels of Naphthalene and Tetrachloroethene (PCE).  According to a news release, the source of the odor was located within the McCullough Bridge pipeline, “which had been out of service for maintenance for approximately 2 months.  The Water Board feels that Naphthalene and PCE leached from the interior pipe coating during this period.”  The pipe is now completely closed.
