Quitting smoking isn’t easy, but it can be easier with a plan. That’s the reason for the Great American Smokeout® on November 15th. Across the country, thousands of people use this day to quit smoking or to create a quit plan for the future. This event has been put on by the American Cancer Society on the third Thursday of November for over 40 years. It can take more than one try to quit smoking. If you’re thinking about quitting, talk to your healthcare provider about resources, such as prescription medications and counseling. Having support can also make a huge difference. Support can come from different places, such as: • The Oregon Tobacco Quit Line (www.quitnow.net/oregon; 1-800-QUIT NOW); • Nicotine Anonymous meetings (https://nicotine-anonymous.org/); • Self-help books and materials; • Encouragement from friends and family members. Quitting smoking looks different for everyone; but you are not alone. On November 15th, join thousands of Americans in taking an important step towards a healthier life. Whether you plan for a future quit date or use November 15th as day one without smoking, the impact can be enormous.
