The Oregon State Police’s 50-foot offshore enforcement vessel Guardian is considering a move from the North Coast to the Central Coast. According to reports, OSP has contacted the Port of Newport about the possibility of relocating the vessel from Astoria to Newport. It has been in Astoria since it was commissioned in 2010. Newport already serves as the homeport for the Hatfield Marine Science Center’s research vessels, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Marine Operations Center – Pacific research vessels, and the U.S. Coast Guard also indicated an interest in possibly locating one of their new Legend-Class Cutters at Yaquina Bay.
