Following a seven-day trial and two-and-a-half hours of deliberations, a Coos County Circuit Court Jury found a 47-year old male guilty of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree Thursday, July 25, involving the death of his four-month old baby boy. According to a news release from District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, “These charges stem from an incident that came to light on March 30, 2015, when then four month old Dilliam Bowman was brought to the emergency room at Bay Area Hospital in critical condition.” Doctors discovered the infant had “extensive and severe brain injury along with an old subdural hematoma and a new subdural hematoma.” The baby was transferred to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland where doctors discovered more injuries. The boy passed away July 11, 2017. Michael Dean Bowman and Christine Bush, the biological parents, were both indicted by a Grand Jury on March 27, 2018. Bush pled guilty to Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree and sentenced to 18-months in prison. Bowman will be sentenced August 2, 2019. The family who adopted Dillian has started a project in his memory. A park designed for handicapped children will be built in the North Bend area in Dillian’s memory.
