The traveling Harlem Crowns basketball team took on a Marshfield “Local Almost Legend” team in the Pirate Palace Tuesday night as a fund-raiser for the MHS football and boys’ basketball teams. The six-person team, made up of mostly former collegiate players now based in Oakland, CA, brought their comical antics to the gym before an appreciative audience. As expected, the Harlem Crowns won 82-60, but the score didn’t matter as much as the interchange between the players and the audience throughout the lightly officiated game. Unofficial scoring for the local team: Doug Holland 2, Bryan Trendell 6, Josh Line 12, Floyd Montiel, Ryan Pederson, Scott Banks 3, Mike Shaffer 4, Mark Wheeling, Todd Tardie, Karla Delgado 2, Mike Herbert 9, Justin Miller 4, Sagge McNeely 6, Dylan Boyer 2, Austin Morgan, Brook Toy 8. Following the game, the Crowns were off to Washington State for another community fund-raiser game.
