It slipped by rather quietly last week when Hoffman Construction officially turned the keys to the new Hayward Field track facility over to the University of Oregon in Eugene. It was the completion of a two-year project that cost more than $200 million. Duck alum and Nike CEO, Phil Knight footed the bill along with his wife Penny and several other deep pockets. The new facility has a permanent seating capacity of 12,650 but can expand to 25,000 for the larger track meets such as the Pre Classic, Pac-12 Championships, NCAA Championships, and U.S. Olympic Trials.
